
The hostage situation at Buffer Zone in Mamelodi East has ended, but so have two lives after 16 hours of negotiations and intense expectations, the constable who took his family members hostage unalive himself. Constable Thapelo Mashego accused his fiancé of cheating on him and questioned the paternity of his child.
It seems the constable believed his child was actually his brother’s. He also allegedly believed his fiancée had a relationship with his colleague as well. It all started in the morning on Tuesday, when officers arrived at the scene. They were told by witnesses that the constable had fired two shots before refusing to release his mother, who is 69 years old, as well as his 18-year-old nephew, from inside the house, hostage negotiators worked throughout the day and managed to secure the release of the constable’s mother.
She was treated on the scene and then taken to hospital. Just before midnight, a special task force member was preparing to enter the house, two shots were heard when officers went inside, they found the body of the constable, as well as his 18-year-old nephew, who had wounds from shots. Mashego had been serving at the Bosch cop police station, and he had been an officer since 2019.
